Call for Proposals - Worcester Polytechnic Institute Public Art Residency

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks an accomplished artist to
create a work of public art during our inaugural artist residency to be
held in Spring 2012.

The goals of this project are to:

*             Create a unique, site-specific artwork in any medium (sculpture,
installation, mural, video, performance, etc.) that will enliven a
public space at WPI
*             Promote curiosity and dialogue among the diverse members of our
community
*             Engage in an on-site artistic process in collaboration with WPI
students and faculty
*             Create artwork that is safe and easily maintained for the
duration of the installation period
*             Proposals that creatively link art with science and/or
technology are encouraged, but not required

The chosen artist will visit the WPI campus for a week-long residency in
April 2012, during which time their artwork will be realized and
installed in a public location. A team of WPI students with experience
in the arts will assist the visiting artist in the preparation and
installation of the finished artwork. A WPI faculty member will serve as
the liaison between the artist, students, and staff. The residency will
culminate in a public event for the presentation of the new work, as
well as an artist's talk to introduce and contextualize the project.
