The Princeton Arts Society presents Muriel Dyas, a costumed interpreter, portraying Mary Surratt, the American woman convicted of conspiracy in a plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln.

Q & A will follow the performance. Refreshments appropriate to the Civil War era will be provided. The program is free and open to the public.
An exhibit of portraits by the PAS Portrait Group of other female characters in Muriel’s repertoire will be on display, including Anne Boleyn, Marie Antoinette, and Queen Elizabeth I.
Muriel Dyas presents authentic costumed reenactments of segments of the lives of famous medieval women. She has been featured in The Boston Globe, The Worcester Telegram and Gazette, and has been praised as “a gifted story teller with a sparkling sense of humor.”
Mary Surratt, the only American to be portrayed by Ms Dyas, kept a boarding house in Washington, DC where Confederate sympathizers frequently met. Mary’s son, John Surratt, was a friend of John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s assassin. Mary’s part in the conspiracy was not clearly proved and she maintained her innocence until her untimely end on the scaffold. Mary Surratt was hanged for her crime along with three men.
