PAS supports Habitat for Humanity

Members of PAS have been busy turning old, abandoned pieces of furniture and new, unfinished items into beautiful works of art, all for the cause of providing simple, decent, and affordable housing for people in need.  The items will be donated to Habitat for Humanity’s MetroWest/Greater Worcester “High Heels and Hard Hats” auction event at the Natick Mall in April.  Come see these beautiful, creative items this Sunday, March 25, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the PAS room at the Princeton Center building.

"Art in the City" Fundraiser

Hello:  I am forwarding the call to artists for our annual fundraiser. I recently bought a painting from Joanne Talbot Quinn. I asked her to consider  our fundraiser and she suggested I send the “Call to Artists” to PAS. Meet Mary Surratt, Convicted Assassin!

The Princeton Arts Society presents Muriel Dyas, a costumed interpreter, portraying Mary Surratt, the American woman convicted of conspiracy in a plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln.

Date:  Sunday, April 1st, 2012
Time:  2 pm
Place: The Princeton Center, 18 Boylston Ave., Princeton, MA

Q & A will follow the performance. Refreshments appropriate to the Civil War era will be provided. The program is free and open to the public.

Muriel Dyas presents authentic costumed reenactments of segments of the lives of famous medieval women. An exhibit of portraits by the PAS Portrait Group of other female characters in Muriel’s repertoire will be on display, including Anne Boleyn, Marie Antoinette, and Queen Elizabeth I. Ms. Dyas also portrays Mary Queen of Scots, Alexandra the last Czarina, Catherine the Great and Eleanor of Aquitaine. More information can be had at www.herstorycallyspeaking.com
 
Mary Surratt, the only American to be portrayed by Ms Dyas, kept a boarding house in Washington, DC where Confederate sympathizers frequently met. Mary’s son, John Surratt, was a friend of John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s assassin. Mary’s part in the conspiracy was not clearly proved and she maintained her innocence until her untimely end on the scaffold. Mary Surratt was hanged for her crime along with three men.

Princeton Arts Society’s “Web Based Marketing for the Artist” program with Beth Mellor, is tonight Thursday, March 15 from 7:00-8:30 pm in the PAS Room of the Princeton Center, 18 Boylston Avenue, Princeton.  Learn how to utilize simple internet tools like Etsy, Paypal, the Square, Blogger, Twitter, and Facebook to promote yourself and your work online. We'll also discuss simple photography techniques to put your best face forward. No Wi-Fi will be available, but Beth will provide a detailed PowerPoint presentation.
