WHO: Women Who Design ...

Have you ever dreamed of making art, but didn't know where to begin?

Would you like a sense of satisfaction and have fun in the process?

What : An experience for your mind and soul. Escape the winter blahs and join us for enjoyable art experiences!

This is a multi-media program designed by local artist and Princeton Arts Society member, Andrea Driscoll, to help women to express their creativity by achieving a relationship with artistic materials.

Daytime Multi-Media Workshops begin on March 8, 2012

6 SESSIONS on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 am., to include:

Printing: Learn to design and print cards, and use prints in collages and drawings or paintings.
Collage: Experience the freedom of creating new designs from paper and other materials to create a unique piece of art.
"Green Art": Help the environment by creating something new from something old. Paints, collage, beads and fiber are part of the fun. Bring an object (tray, lamp, box, etc.) to re-purpose with your own flair.

Cost: $120 for six sessions, plus some basic supplies. Payment is due one week before the class begins.

Acrylic Painting Classes begin on March 8.

4 Week CLASSES on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30

Instructional acrylic painting classes for beginning and intermediate students, and are limited to 10 students for maximum attention.

You will learn techniques in color, design, brush strokes,
composition and more, while developing your own style in a relaxed setting.
Bring canvases, brushes, acrylic paints. A supply list will be provided, with a coupon for CC Lowell's Art Supplies. Some floor easels will be available in the studio, or bring your own.

Cost: $100, due 1 week before the class begins.

Andrea Driscoll, a Sterling resident, is a graduate of Lesley University. She has taught at the Worcester Art Museum, as well as having diverse classroom experiences ranging from grade 1 to graduate school. She is a member of the Princeton Arts Society, Arts Worcester, and the Sterling Garden Club. Her work is shown locally at both arts groups.

Andrea also works as a non-profit organizational and fund-raising consultant.

She donates a portion of her class fees to "Culture Leap" a non-profit organization that provides cultural experiences for children and supports teachers with professional development through the Worcester Public Schools.

Goddard House Art Show

Nature & the City

Dear Andrea,

JUST A REMINDER...to submit your work for consideration in the upcoming 2012 Goddard House Art Gallery exhibition. The theme for this year is "Nature & the City." The show will run from April 22 - May 20, 2012. A juried panel will select work from submissions received by Monday, February 20, 2012. In addition, we will continue to offer artists an opportunity to submit pieces for sale in our boutique. All pieces for sale must be submitted for consideration in advance of the show. Boutique submissions may be made on Monday, April 16 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or Thursday, April 19 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

While it is hard to believe that another year is upon us, we are eagerly awaiting to hear from you! Please submit all works to me, prior to the deadline and per the directions below. Please call me at 508.753.4890 or email me at mpn@goddardhomestead.org with any additional questions.

Habitat for Humanity Decorating Party

Dear PAS Member,

Habitat for Humanity's Greater Worcester chapter is in need of artists to decorate furniture and other items to be auctioned off to support affordable housing efforts. The attached flyer provides details.

We're holding a PAS Habitat for Humanity Decorating Party on Sunday, February 26 from 1pm-4pm at the PAS Room in the Princeton Center building on Boylston Ave. so we can all work together for this great cause. Finished works will be displayed at a PAS open house before March 16, final date TBD. Please note that you are welcome to donate decorated items of your own, whether or not you attend the painting party!

New Webpage for Kevin J. McCarthy

PAS member Kevin McCarthy of Leominster reports that he has created a web page to share his writings & artwork with others. Although he's just getting started with the site, it contains his 339-page book,an article, a poem, and a few photos of his artwork and crewel embroidery work. He hopes to add hundreds of photos of his artwork and many other articles and poems, many of which have already been published. Visit Kevin's site at: www.worldbykevin.com

Kevin is also the "Artist of the Month" until mid- February at the Leominster Art Center, 69 Main Street, Leominster MA (across from the Post Office), where he has over twenty pieces of artwork on display. Boston Printmakers Show at Worcester State
The Gallery at Worcester State is hosting a selection of works from the Boston Printmakers' 2010 members' show. The Opening Reception for the show, Red Section, is Thursday Jan. 26th, from 5-7 pm. Each print is accompanied by a didactic text describing how the print is made. The show will be on view Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays from 1-4 pm until Feb. 23.

EXHIBIT: Luann Hume

PRINCETON ARTS SOCIETY EXIBIT AT BARRE BANK AND PRINCETON TOWN HALL

The Princeton Arts Society, the Princeton Branch of the Barre Savings Bank, and the Princeton Town Administrator's Office, are pleased to announce an exhibit of the art work of Luann Hume of Leominster.

Luann Hume is a member of the Princeton Arts Society, the Leominster Art Association, and many other regional art associations, as well as a resident artist at the Fitchburg Rollstone Gallery. Luann is a well-known U.S. artist who specializes in watercolor and pastel paintings of landscapes and seascapes. She is an elected member of the Pastel Society of America and has won numerous awards throughout her artistic career, both in judged and juried shows.

Over 24 pieces of her art work are now on display at the Princeton Branch of the Barre Savings Bank and at Princeton’s Bagg Hall through the end of March. All works are for sale and can be purchased directly from the artist. A portion of all sales will be donated by the artist to the Princeton Arts Society to support community-wide art related events. All are invited to stop in and enjoy the work of this talented artist.

Best to all our painting friends in PAS Portrait Group and membership! Just reporting that Sam won a third place ribbon in the Fountain Hills Cultural Council Annual Juried Exhibition. His medium is acrylic. Rosalie won two second place ribbons, one for pastel and the other for oil.

Call to Artists: Community Arts Festival March 29!

Please join us as a participating artist at the Seventh Annual Community Arts Festival, to be held Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Thomas Prince School in Princeton.

As some of you know, the Arts Festival was developed to celebrate the creative efforts of students at Thomas Prince School and artists of the wider Wachusett community. Each year, we display artwork and written work by TPS students, and invite local artists, writers, and musicians to display and demonstrate their own work to the students and community members who attend.

This year our theme is Letters and Numbers, although artists need not bring work that relates to the theme. (We welcome community artists because they set a great example of lifelong creativity and commitment to the arts.)We’re planning a wonderful evening of giant word searches and poetry walls, letter and number games (hopscotch, four-square), a Community Illustrated Letter table, displays of alphabet and number sculptures by students, choral and band performances, and much more.

The Festival is a lively event, with adults and children roaming the school, looking at displays, and talking to the attending artists. It is very informal and fun, does not cost anything, and is not a fund-raiser, although it is supported in part by the TPS PTA.

We can provide table or floor space for whatever work you would like to display, and an identifying placard. If you reserve table space, please plan to arrive by 4:30 and be available to talk about your work between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. You are also free to offer your work for sale if you like.

Real refreshments (not just cookies!) will be available for all.

The Paxton library has invited us to exhibit the 2012 Princeton/Wachusett calendar and some of the smaller pieces of original art in their display case for the month of January.

Call for Proposals - Worcester Polytechnic Institute Public Art Residency

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks an accomplishedartist to

create a work of public art during our inaugural artistresidency to be

held in Spring 2012.

The goals of this project are to:

* Create a unique, site-specific artwork in any medium (sculpture,

installation, mural, video, performance, etc.) that willenliven a

public space at WPI

* Promote curiosity and dialogue among the diverse members of our

community

* Engage in an on-site artistic process in collaboration with WPI

students and faculty

* Create artwork that is safe and easily maintained for the

duration of the installation period

* Proposals that creatively link art with science and/or

technology are encouraged, but not required

The chosen artist will visit the WPI campus for a week-longresidency in

April 2012, during which time their artwork will be realizedand

installed in a public location. A team of WPI students withexperience

in the arts will assist the visiting artist in thepreparation and

installation of the finished artwork. A WPI faculty memberwill serve as

the liaison between the artist, students, and staff. Theresidency will

culminate in a public event for the presentation of the newwork, as

well as an artist's talk to introduce and contextualize theproject.

Budget:

Artist honorarium - $5000

Artist travel & accommodation - up to $2000

Art materials and supplies - $2000

Project dates:

January 9, 2012 - Proposals due

January 23, 2012 - Selected artist notified

April 12-19, 2012 - Residency period

April 19, 2012 - Public presentation of finished work

Submissions will be evaluated by a jury of WPI faculty and

staff on the following criteria:

* Artist's qualifications as demonstrated by past works and

proposal

* Quality, strength and artistic merit of past artworks

* Experience in or willingness to work in a public setting.

* Demonstrated experience fabricating and installing site-specific

public artworks

Interested parties should submit the following documents byJanuary 9,

2012:

* Detailed project proposal (including designs, timeline, and

technical requirements)

* Documentation of previous works of public art

PAS Member Exhibit: Kathy Hebert

Kathy Hebert to Exhibit at Hudson Town Hall

PAS member Kathy Hebert, known for her paintings of New England landscapes, animals, portraits, and flowers, will be exhibiting her work at the Hudson Town Hall, 78 Main Street in Hudson, MA, from December 10, 2011 to March 16, 2012. The opening reception will be held Sunday, January 8 at 1 pm (snow date is Sunday, January 15). Come and see Kathy and her work and enjoy live music and delicious refreshments!

Report: 2011 Small Works & Holiday Gift Exhibit

I am pleased to report that the show was very successful interms of attendance and in terms of sales. We had a steady flow of visitors from the opening reception on Fridaynight right through closing on Sunday afternoon.

The art work and gifts on sale were of very high quality andpriced at an affordable level.

Over the three days we sold over $3700 of art (originals,prints, and other gift items). Of theproceeds, artists received over $2600 and the Society received over $1100.00. Eighty per cent of all thirty sixparticipating member artists sold at least one piece. Thanks and congratulations to allparticipating artists.

I attribute our success largely to the active support of ourmembership who shared their talents and time before, during and after the eventincluding:

Emilie Astell, Judy Dino, Andrea Driscoll, Frances Espy, ChristianGal, Claire Golding, David Hummon, Patricia King, Doreen La Scola, Beth Mellor,Jean Murphy, Karen Rossow, Bobbye Samdahl, the Sancho-Rosi Family, Jean Strock, David and Rosella Stromberg, Lou and Mary Trostel, Judy Tyler, and SusanUlrich

"Paintings from Biddeford Pool, ME" will be exhibited at the Worcester Public Library during the month of December. Members of the Princeton Art Society who will be showing their work are: Sam Lalos, Sid Solomon, Elly Beatty, Beverly Clark and Jean Murphy. Memorial Tribute; Connie Salter

Connie Salter was a member of the Princeton Arts Society for many years. She lived in West Boylston and passed away on October 30^th at the age of 91. She was a printmaker, watercolorist and made handmade paper on which she painted and printed. Her art was always in the Spring Member shows except for the past few years. As a docent at the Worcester Art Museum she was known for her many lively tours of the Museum Collections. She also was an art teacher in the West Boylston Schools.

Shadow Puppet Extravaganza

On the weekend of November 19th and 20th,Firefly Shadow Theater, in collaboration with the Princeton Arts Society, willbring the exciting dramatic art of shadow puppetry to the area. Saturday, November 19^th from 3-5pm,a hands-on shadow puppet workshop, ideal for elementary-age children andfamilies, will take place at the First Congregational Church (14 Mountain Rd., Princeton). Thisworkshop combines performance, puppet-making, Q & A, and a glimpse behindthe scenes.

Sunday, November 20^th,from 5-6:30 pm at the Princeton Arts Society room in the Princeton CenterBuilding (18 Boylston Ave, Princeton), Firefly will perform the classic tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, whichadults will especially enjoy. Linda Johnson Exhibit

Linda Johnson is displaying 17 paintings until the end of January at
Papa Gino's pizza restaurant in Worcester. She would sure like you
to attend the opening this coming Tuesday (November 15), 5-7
p.m. Most of the paintings have never been shown before (though most
are on her web site). Six of them are derived from photos she took
when she was in Asia. Almost all of the paintings are figurative and
narrative. Join her and several artists for pizza and other Italian
style food.

Free Art Lecture at WPI Nov. 21

The public is invited to a free art lecture titled "The Southern Frontier: The Landscapes of Bartram’s Travels"

by Philip Juras, landscape artist, ecologist and landscape architect.

The lecture will feature a slide show of Juras' paintings depicting 18th Century Southern landscapes as they would have been observed by naturalist William Bartram when he traveled throughout the American South.

Ireland offers some of the best landscape photography in the world. Join Cindy Wilson and Eileen McCarney Muldoon as they travel to this small island of extraordinary beauty next September. Whether the thought of Ireland conjures up images of windswept cliffs, haunting views of castle and abbeys or unspoiled villages alive with the Irish spirit, you will not be disappointed. This workshop has been designed to increase your artistic and technical photographic skills while you experience an authentic Irish journey.

Our workshop will begin on Galway Bay in a seaside town called Kinvarra. Kinvarra will serve as our home base while we explore the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, small villages and Galway Town. We will then travel to the medieval city of Kilkenny, where we will visit ancient castles, abbeys and ruins along with enchanting countryside and small Irish towns. One of the many allures of Ireland is the ease at which the old and the new survive together; history is ever present at every curve along the winding roadways.

After spending time in a medieval city, we will relax for an evening in the remote forest park of Gougane Barra, where St. Finbar, according to tradition, built his secluded monastery in the 6th century. This is an area of profound beauty and simplicity.

Our final destination is the Dingle Peninsula, once cited as "the most beautiful place on earth" by National Geographic. Our days will be filled with visits to Gallarus Oratory, Inch Beach, beehive huts and weather permitting , the Blasket Islands.

The last night will be spent in a hotel close to Shannon Airport where we will have a closing reception and slide show.

Accommodations: Hotels and Inns picked with care! Rates based on double occupancy.

Level: Working knowledge of your camera. Both enthusiasts and professionals will gain from this workshop!

Fee: $4200. Twelve nights and 13 days. Breakfasts and six dinners included. All transportation in Ireland during the Workshop is included. Airfare to and from Ireland is not included.

Matthias Waschek

I am delighted to announce that Worcester Art Museum has found a new Director. Matthias Waschek, Ph.D., will officially begin his appointment as Museum Director on November 16, 2011. Matthias will succeed our current Director, Jim Welu, who announced last year that he would be transitioning into the newly-created position of Director Emeritus.

Matthias brings impeccable credentials to this position. His 20 years of scholarship, curatorial skills, and leadership have established him as a true force in the next generation of museum management. These strengths, together with his passion for art and an impressive track record of creatively engaging traditional and new museum audiences, make his appointment an exciting, evolutionary step for Worcester and our amazing Museum.

Most recently, Matthias directed the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts in St. Louis, Missouri, where among other achievements, he shaped the identity of the new museum, giving it international renown, and doubling the annual operating budget. Previously, he was Director of Academic Programs at the Musée du Louvre in Paris where he honed his experience in curatorial work, academic programs, teaching, lecturing, publishing, and general management. Matthias was born in Germany and earned his Ph.D. at Bonn University, concentrating in art history, classical archaeology, and modern history.

As you know, the search for a successor to Jim has been lengthy, but it has also been comprehensive and thorough. Matthias earned the unanimous recommendation of the search committee and is certainly most qualified to fill this position. We are delighted that we were able to convince him that Worcester provided the most exciting opportunity from among the many other enticing offers he received! I am convinced that he is absolutely the right person to lead the Worcester Art Museum into the future.

I am most grateful for your ongoing support as we begin this new phase in the Museum's history. I hope that you will be able to join me at our annual meeting on November 16 to welcome Matthias Waschek as the new Director, and to thank Jim Welu for his 37 years of outstanding service to Worcester Art Museum.

2011 Winter Sprinkler Factory Exhibition

ENTRY FORM HERE

The Artists' Group of the Sprinkler Factory will present our third open juried show in celebration of the 2011 winter holiday season. Artists in the Worcester area and beyond are invited to submit up to three original works of art created within the past two years. The exhibition will be held in the Sprinkler Factory Gallery, a large, well-lit space that retains the industrial charm of its manufacturing roots. Selection of submitted work will be done by members of the Artists' Group.

The Sprinkler Factory is an emerging artists' colony in the heart of Worcester. It houses a diverse group of accomplished painters, printmakers, potters, glass artists, jewelers, fiber artists, and artists in other media.

Theme:
For this exhibition there is no theme – no limits on artists' creativity. We are seeking outstanding and impressive visual works of all kinds.

Eligibility:
Artists may submit up to three works created within the past two years. Fine art and fine craft in any media is acceptable, but work must be appropriate for display in a fine art/craft gallery. Media may include, but is not limited to, oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, collage, photography, video, ceramics, metal, fiber, glass, wood, and stone.

Important Dates:
Completed entry forms are due by 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Notification of acceptance will be by Saturday, November 12. All accepted work must be hand-delivered to the second floor Sprinkler Factory Gallery on Saturday, November 19, or Sunday, November 20, between noon and 4:00 PM.

The show will run from Friday, December 2, 2011 through Saturday, January 14, 2012. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, December 3, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.

Unsold artwork must be picked up Saturday, January 14, 4:00 – 6:00 PM or Sunday, January 15, noon – 4:00 PM. There will be a small reception for artists and their families during art-pick-up hours on Saturday. Customers that purchased artwork are also welcome to attend the reception to pick-up their pieces.

Size Limits:
In order to accommodate as many artists as possible, the suggested size limits are as follows: for two-dimensional work, a maximum width of 80 inches and a maximum height of 80 inches, including frame. For three-dimensional work, a maximum width of 36 inches, a maximum depth of 24 inches, a maximum height of 72 inches, excluding base, with a weight limit of 150 pounds.

All works should be suitably framed, mounted, or otherwise prepared for display in a fine art/craft gallery. Work that arrives in unacceptable or unprofessional condition will not be hung.

Entry Fee:
There is a $10 fee for each submitted work. No cash or credit cards will be accepted. Please make your check payable to AGSF. AGSF stands for the Artists’ Group of the Sprinkler Factory and is a non-profit organization.

Sales:
A commission of 20% will be charged on all sales.
Submission Procedure:
Jurying will be done from digital images submitted on a CD or e-mailed. No slides will be accepted.
If submitting a CD, print your name and e-mail address on the CD. Include the following files on the CD:
• Image files in JPEG format. You may include up to two views of each artwork.
• A brief biography in WORD having a *.doc extension or PDF format.
• An artist's statement in WORD having a *.doc extension or PDF format.
• A list of artwork titles with the corresponding names of image files.

Mail the CD, along with your completed entry form and a check for the jury fee, to the address shown on the entry form.

A drop-off box will be provided at the front door of the Sprinkler Factory at 38 Harlow Street for those artists who would prefer to deliver their submissions in person.
If submitting by e-mail, then email your image files and document files to

SprinklerFactoryArtShow@gmail.com. In your email also include your name, e-mail address, phone number, the title of each artwork, the type of media, the dimensions, and the price (or Not For Sale). Holly Days 2011 is a fantastic and unique shopping experience! We have organized a 3-day Pop-Up Shop (set up like a retail store) held in the Princeton Center gymnasium on November 25, 26 & 27th which will "pop up" just once a year and offer only the finest hand-crafted gift items.

We have assembled a wide array (100+) of amazing artisans. Our goal is to make it possible for great artisan items to get into the hands of those who appreciate quality workmanship and local talent. Unlike a traditional craft-fair, artisans do not have to sit there for 3 days. You drop off your items on Wednesday and pick up your unsold inventory on Sunday. We do all the work (organize, set up, market and work the event)!

Although we have not made entrance into Holly Days "open", as a member & supporter of PAS, I'd like to extend to members the ability to participate. Len Haug is a member of ARTSWorcester, Falmouth Artists Guild, Princeton Arts Society, Leominster Art Association,

He holds a BA degree from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois with a major in fine arts.

Throughout his adult life he has maintained an interest in creative activities

and has continued to take art courses at regional colleges and art museums.

Haug has exhibited his work in the Midwest and Eastern United States and enjoys participating

in area art festivals and shows. His work has been sold to both private and corporate clients.

Len Haug has been juried into many highly competitive juried shows and has won numerous recognitions and awards

in multiple juried and judged art shows at the national, regional, and local level.

PAS Hey Day Report

Len Haug, Hey Day Art Exhibit Coordinator

In spite of the weather, this year's Hey Day event was successful with close to 600 visitors.

I would like to thank all those who participated in or supported this event including the following:

Thanks to our artist-demonstrators who helped to bring the event alive with their art and talent including Bruce Dean, Jen Caswell, Denyse Dar, Andrea Driscoll, Frannie Espy, Kathy Hebert, Luann Hume, Heather March, Diane Pedersen, David and Rosella Stromberg, and Judy Tyler.

Thanks to our volunteers who helped staff the event including Claire Golding (calendar table), Janice Rayner (art raffle table), Jean Murphy and Naoko Gomi (portrait table), and Lou and Mary Trostel (welcome and exhibitor sales tables).

Thanks to all those who helped to plan, prepare, and promote this event including Judy Dino for helping create exhibitor art labels and art installation assistance and Beth Mellor for her assistance in creating banners and signs, and to Judy Tyler for all of her outstanding marketing initiatives.

In total we had over thirty artist-exhibitors who helped to fill the barn with their beautiful art including works by Sharon Bahosh, Guy Biechele, Liz Carren, Doris Carter, Danielle Darling, Mary Dunn, Charles Gray, Linda Johnson, Deborah Roberts Kirk, Naida J. Knox, Michael Lavin , Lorraine Leno, Lori Mac Donald, Susan Manero, Mark Moore, Elieen McCarney Muldoon, Jean Murphy, Paula J. Murphy, Christine Nichols, Marilyn Pratt, Joanne Quinn, Michael Saunders, Pam Short, Sid Solomon, Jean Stabell, Mary Trostel, and Barry Van Dusen.

One of our larger fund raisers this year was our art raffle table and I would like to thank the following art donors for their generosity in donating original art work including Doris Carter, Chet & Sylvia Caswell, Bruce Dean, Andrea Driscoll, Charles Gray, Kathy Hebert, Luann Hume, Jean Murphy, Judy Tyler, and Barry Van Dusen.

Of course, at Hey Day, we unveiled our new Audubon and PAS 2012 Calendar and I would like to thank Judy Tyler for her leadership in taking this project from concept to delivery. The calendar is beautiful and promises to be one of our most successful fund raisers.

A special thanks to Deb Cary and her wonderful Audubon Wachusett Meadow staff who provided this beautiful setting and met all of our needs.

The art barn helped to attract visitors from all over Massachusetts (including a Gallery owner from Newbury Street in Boston who came specifically to see our show and some of our artists) and gave families and the community a wonderful day to enjoy art in this beautiful and special place called Wachusett Meadow!

From a financial perspective, initial receipts total over $2,000 in the sale of member and PAS owned art and raffle tickets, not to mention the sale of our 2012 calendar which Judy Tyler will report on separately.

We always wish for a crisp sunny day and we got it this year, at least in the spirit and faces of those who worked at or came to this event. Thanks to everyone!

Emilie Astell was recently juried into the highly competitive 2011 Concord Art Association Frances N. Roddy Open Competition with her work, "All My Children". Of over 585 entries, only 85 were selected. The opening reception was held on Sep 15th and the show runs through October 16. Len Haug's "Aunt Lotti - The Hat Lady" was also juried into the show.

SLATE ART

Create and donate a slate painting for our upcoming Holiday Small Works Exhbiit and Sale!

Thanks to Dave Stromberg for providing the slates. 30 slates are now ready in the PAS center building room.

Sign you name and take a slate. Return your completed work of art by the end of November. We will add the leather strap to hang and display and sell your work at our annual small works exhibit and sale the first week end in December.

Members can pick up the slates anytime during scheduled portrait group sessions (Tuesdays 9:30 to 12:30) or make special arrangements with Len via contact@princetonarts.org.

All proceeds will benefit the Princeton Arts Society.

Worcester Windows Reception

Join the Worcester Cultural Coalition for an Opening Reception of the newest installation of the Worcester Windows Community Gallery on Friday, September 16th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 60 Franklin Street, Worcester, overlooking historic Worcester Common. Reception will include complimentary refreshments, live entertainment by Jazz Trane of the Joy of Music Program, along with walking tours of the community gallery footprint. Reception is FREE and open to the public.

Worcester Windows is a community gallery program which uses storefronts throughout downtown Worcester as exhibit space to enhance the City's downtown and to provide display opportunities for local emerging and established artists. Two Princeton Arts Society members are involved in the current exhibits.

Kathy Hebert - Kathy's original oil paintings which include landscape, still life, and portrait are on display at Lucky's Café, 102 Grove Street, and Commerce Associates, 340 Main Street. Kathy has been painting for over 40 years and has a studio in Worcester where she teaches adults how to be artists. Judy Tyler - Judy's photograph "Open for Business" is on display at Worcester City Hall, 455 Main Street as part of the Worcester Photography Group's exhibit entitled, "Architecture of Worcester." Access to the exhibit area is from the parking garage behind Worcester City Hall.

Portrait Group visits Tom Kellner's house (part 1)

Tom Kellner, a relatively new member, invited the portrait group to his house in Princeton after our last meeting. We brought a lunch but didn't need to as his hospitality was almost overwhelming. Tom teaches sculpture at the Worcester Art Museum, and his sculpture as well as paintings were all over his house and property. As for subjects for us to paint, they were everywhere. The weather was perfect, and everyone had a grand time. We only hope he invites again.

"Drawn to the Sea"

PAS member, Eileen McCarney Muldoon, is now on exhibit at both the Princeton Branch of the Barre Bank and Princeton's Bagg Hall.

Eileen is a professional photographer spending her time between Princeton, Ma. and Jamestown, RI. The style of the majority of her work is contemplative and peaceful. She relies on water, rocks and the sheer beauty of nature to inspire her. He work was recently described by a juror as being "painterly and serene; it takes me to a quiet and peaceful place".

Over the past few years, Eileen has been leading international and local photographic workshops with her business partner . Their most recent workshop was in Greece.

Dear Princeton Arts Society Members,

We are pleased to letyou know about an exciting new opportunity. The PrincetonArts Society and the Wachusett Meadow Audubon Sanctuary are planning to createand publish a join calendar for 2012, and we would like you to be a part of it!

The subject will be Princeton and the Wachusett area and thethings that members of both organizations value and treasure about our area—thearts, nature (wildlife, birds, flowers/plants), The Mountain, The Sanctuary,the streams and ponds, the beautiful views, our historic buildings, etc.

All forms of art are welcome and encouraged – oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, mixed media,sculpture, photography, poetry, short essays, etc.

The new exhibition, "Faces & Places: Work by Rosalie Lazarus" opens on June 30. Everyone is invited to join the artist at a Reception on Saturday, July 9, 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at the Craft Center. Enjoy Rosalie's outstanding work along with fine refreshments and good company.

After a period of work and family life, in 1991 Rosalie Lazarus returned to art and began studying her craft once more. Leominster Art Association has been a wonderful motivation for her and she has participated in many exhibitions and accumulated many awards. Rosalie's paintings have appeared in one- and two-person exhibitions in Martha's Vineyard, Marlboro, Bolton, Petersham, and in Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, Arizona. Portraits by Rosalie have been commissioned in pastel, oil, and charcoal. Along with portraiture, she works with landscapes and still-lifes. In recent years, Rosalie's education has included workshops with Richard Whitney, Daniel Greene, Sally Strand, Doug Dawson, Leslie Demille, Charlotte Wharton, and others. Through the years she has taught classes and workshops and given demonstrations for many groups in Massachusetts and Arizona.

Her exhibition at the Petersham Craft features over forty pieces in pastel, oil, and watercolor and runs thru August 4, 2011.

Len's collage painting titled "All Dressed Up" of the Concord Colonial Inn, Concord, MA has been juried selected for the Concord Art Association's 2012 calendar.

Also, Len's "Tuscan Sunset" has been awarded Honorable Mention at the 76th Annual Fitchburg Art Museum Regional Art Exhibit ( the show runs until after Labor Day) and has been purchased for a Corporate Collection. A portfolio of Len's work can be viewed on his website at www.lenhaug.com

A collection of 30 collage paintings by Princeton resident, Len Haug, will be on exhibit from June 1 through July 31 at the Mountainside Market at 23 Hubbardston Road in Princeton, MA.

All works are for sale and include a variety of subjects including various seasonal scenes of Princeton and surrounding towns. While Len works in all media, his passion lies in creating "paintings" out of cut and shredded papers and discarded photographs.

Len has won numerous local, area, and regional awards for his unique art work. If you have never been to the Mountainside Market, please be aware that, in addition to being a market, they offer a wonderful selection of breakfast and luncheon sandwiches, soups, etc. It would be great if, over the next couple of months, you could stop by to both view my art and enjoy the foods and beverages offered by the Mountainside Market.
